Radio Mania

Yup, Radio has regained its fans yet again thanks to some of the private FMs that have started in the last 1 year or so. Well i was one of those radio fans until we gave cable TV connections to home (it was in 7th STD). Being a Tamilan, I used to her "VIVITH BHARATHI" station and "CEYLON" station more than anything else. These two stations are the one that provide variety of songs those days (not sure about now. any updates guys?).

Those ads that come in the radio are still popular and are even played now in the FMs that have come up. Especially my favourite ones are GOPAL "PALPODI"(toothpowder), LIFEBUOY(i even heard ringtone of this ad in my collegue's mobile) and VICCO VAJRADHANTHI. Especially the VICCO product, i never ever heard of them changing their way of advertising. But still its a big hit. These three ads remind me of my BOSS' words "Standards are Standards, U can never Change them". So are these ads standards of the Radio?

The speciality of the private FMs are that the way present things to people and attract them to hear their channel. I am hearing a 3 hour of FM daily during my to and fro to my office. The RJs(Radio Jockeys) are making the hearing of FM more comfortable. Initially when the FM was started, the concentration was more towards CINEMA and cinema alone. But after it was exhausted, when public felt of it boring, they handled even current affairs, business, city happenings etc... in their channel.(by the way, i think private FMs can be called as channels rather than stations. correct me if wrong.)

One special aspect i noted was also during the time of the INDO-PAK cricket series RADIO MIRCHI, one of the private FMs here in chennai, was quick to update their listeners with the latest scores. It had pulled quite a number of listeners due to this. These are some of the little things to be noted for the marketing aspirants.(no advice, just a suggestion. im too dummy to give any advice.) The radio service of the private FMs is a big hit and a boon for the long distance travellers(like me), lorry drivers, shop keepers within a city like Chennai, Mumbai etc...

There is also a big thrill in hearing cricket commentry in radio. I had this experience throughout my life when i miss cricket in TV.(i am a cricket craze. believe me, i would even watch Zim Vs Ban matches if shown). The real thrill comes when a wicket falls or a 6 or 4 is hit. Actually the crowd will react to the situation at that time. But the commentators who have react properly wont. In between this, the ad breaks. For a sixer, for a boundary, everything will attract an ad. Inspite of all these disturbances, i still hear radio commentary.

I heard Mumbai has 4 or 6 private FMs(any body reading this has a Mumbai background please let me know how much are there exactly. Am I expecting too much ;-) ) Long live Radio and its listeners. Are your ears not tuned in yet?

Qualification

As promised in my last blog, i discuss on the qualification needed for software industry in the present world. I disclose at this point of time that it is purely my vision on the industry and nothing to do with pointing against other's opinions. Most of the companies while recruiting freshers only prefer ENGINEERING graduates to any other arts or science grads. I just had to do some sort of analysis before i blogged about it and indeed did some ground work for the same. I contacted some of my college and school friends who are now working in various MNCs as software engineers/programmers/analysts etc... Sunny, My friend, as i said in my previous blog is a Math grad. When a Software company calls for freshers, it is a clear point that they mention "Candidates with excellent academic records and aptitude and attidue are needed". But they still stick to the point that they need only ENGG grads for those posts. If at all they need other grads, they specify the...

Thiruppachi!!!!

Yesterday night show I went to Thiruppachi. Hmmm atleast this time around i didnt feel bored. Definitely this film is better than MADHURA. Hats off to the director for trying something new... oops not the story, but i meant the screenplay. A typical film for Vijay fans. Although i am not a Vijay fan, I admire him. Lots of senti in the film. Looks like ladies will like it for sure. Nothing can come near my God's next movie.... "Chandramukhi".

A Weekend to remember

It was indeed a long weekend for me and a weekend to remember for the rest of my life. I went on a vacation (or rather an extended picnic) to Vizag. My uncle called up my family to join in his house warming and thats all the reason I needed to enjoy a fabulous weekend in and around Vizag. Here are my visits on a daily basis from saturday to Tuesday. Saturday: We went to a place called Simmachalam where Lord Narashimha is famous for, followed by another Sai Seer Mutt. Sunday: It was the house warming day. In the evening we went to Kailasha giri, where lord Shiva and Parvathi's statues are made of white stone and kept in an open place. It is a sort of hangout for the Vizagans and since it is on a hill top, we could have a view of whole Vizag city in the evening with lights. Really worth spending time there and get yourself relaxed. Monday: This was a full day trip planned to go for only 2 places. One is Arukku which is a Hill station (probably like Yercaud, not anywhere ...
