Not for a moment I was talking like the wrestling star Rock. This blog is quite big and you can read it when you have time. I involved myself in cooking today. No, please dont think what I did was for a normal day's cooking. It was time for doing yearly ceremony to my grand father called as "Thevasam" in tamil and "Shrartham" in typical Brahminical language.
Now the interesting question could pop up "What was I doing in cooking for Ceremony? Why should I do involve?". The answer is simple. No one was there in my home to help out my mom. My dad popped into home today morning @ 5 from Mumbai and had to rush to office immediately for urgent work. He had to be back by 10:30 AM for doing the ceremony. So who else is left? It was only me.
My mom really is great. The situation of last year's ceremony was no different from this year's. But the only villain this time is the tennis elbow (Athaan namma Sachin Tendulkarukku vanthuchhe athe thaan) problem my mom is facing. She never complains to do the daily activities she does. Today my mom was complaining a lot. She said "Yaarume illai enakku help panna" meaning "No one is around to help me". As you would expect I became a hero and decided to help her in cooking.
Whata so special in this? For all of you who dont know what I am talking about, please look at the following menu which me and my mom combinedly prepared. There are a total of 19 items which we prepared and the last 3 items are fruits.

10. Avarakkai poricha kootu

12. Milagu Rasam
13. Thayir
14. Thiratti Pal (using Jaggery)
15. Adhirasam
16. Ellu urundai
17. Thenkuzhal (Murukku)
18. Vadai
19. Rashthali Banana
20. Jack fruit
21. Mango
22. Plain Rice
Amazed? I really was. I didnt know that there were 21 items in all when I prepared. Before blogging, I consulted my mom and she gave me the final list.
And wait. Its not just entering into kitchen and start preparing them. There are a lot of requirements you should meet before entering the kitchen for preparing recipies on such day. First, you should take a bath and after that you should wear either a new cloth (meaning it wasnt dipped even once in water) or an old cloth which was washed the day before and no one had touched it after it was put for drying. As my decision to enter kitchen was a sudden one, I wore a new veshti (dhoti) and angavasthram (towel sort of thing) and started to help out my mom.
The help I made would make only 10 percent of the total effort needed to prepare recipies (did I sound like a typical IT guy when I typed this?) and it was the real support she needed which might have aggrevated her tennis elbow. I used mixie to make rice flour for preparin g murukku and athirasam. I also used grinder to prepare flour for vadai. I was the one who pressed murukku machine (I didnt know what to tell on this) and prepared murukku. I lifted and kept the cooked food from the gas stove and also involved in all activities that would make my moms injury bad. So that was it.
